I found a few ways to get by my VMware SVGA issue but in case any of y'all have it, the official Windows 10 is on MSDN now. I imagine I'll just grab that.

Download and install went very easy. I was able to get the start menu small as windows 7 by dumping all the tiles then resizing the blank space. So far so good.

Classic Shell is a great way to get Windows 7 style start menu back as well.

It ain't playing good with my 3rd party email. won't sync up. Other than that, so far it seems to be doing well but i'm sure more glitches are still to come.

I'll grab a screenshot of the Product Key on the laptop when I fire it up later. It kept the same Key for Win10. I'll post the shot here when I do. I clearly starts with 2 zeros....

Edit: in fact, so does the product key on this rig's Win7 Pro installation! See first pic....second to come later.win7productkey.jpg crap...that didn't work so well. It reads: 00371-619-9175303-85979. And the first 5 digits are a group...you can't skip the 0s.

Several months ago I installed Win 7 on my MacBook with Bootcamp but it never asked for the key. Everything I tried would run but it said it wasn't a valid copy and wouldn't let me reserve the upgrade. I have downloaded 10 from the M$ site and will try to install it from a bootable thumb drive (the Win 7 key should work AFAIK).

The product ID listed in the system info screen is not the same as teh key. For example on the machine I am typing on the product ID is 00371-OEM-8992671-00008 and the key is XXY2M-DKDWC-599W3-K689G-6P6GT (For the record I modified the actual key for security but the differences are obvious)

That is not the actual product key code you put in when installing. Thats different and not shown anywhere so easily... Unless that has changed lately.

That explains that, I suppose! Not that it matters at this point, but how would I find the actual key in either Win7 or Win10?
