    Thanks ...

    But to be clear, there are no satellite tp. assignments for these OTA subchannels are there?

    They wouldn't be OTA if they were on the satellite.

    Maybe this is the result of the repack. While that's not scheduled to start until this fall, the FCC is allowing stations to move earlier so long as their new RF channel doesn't interfere with any existing channels. Though I'd think if that was the case here there would be a lot of channels showing as removed as well, unless they are adding first and then removing later to smooth the transition. Presumably this OTA channel adds originate with the guide provider, and would be reflected in what you see on zap2it.com.

    Ok, lol ...

    Pardon me if it sounded like a dum question. But just wanted to make sure that Dr. j's use of "OTA" wasn't loose terminology for "OTA diginets carried via satellite."

    I'm just wondering now if I should bother with trying to reconnect a spare AM21 I have laying around here to my Genie to see if it can receive them. And/or re-running the OTA setups on the four HR24s we have with AM21s as well?

    Or if these new OTA channels are only for the rumored new OTA dongle for the Genies?

    OTA Analysis for 180516

    The analysis Excel below provides the additions to the OTA database in today's data. For those of you with interest in the OTA world, this is a huge departure. The OTA database we provide has had internal record changes from time to time over the years, but there have been no additions to the OTA data since November, 2009. Today that changed. You might suspect that significant changes are underway. None of the new added records have a TMS_ID above 65535...

    The rest of the usual Analysis Excel is absent because much of it does not make sense at the moment.

    So it looks like they're doing the fake ID thing like they did with the satellite channels where stations with actual TMS_IDs higher than 65535 are assigned fake ones using the gaps that exist below 65535.

    I just looked at the first one in the list, KTVT in Dallas. Rabbitears doesn't show that channel participating in the repack, and Wikipedia shows the 11.2 subchannel started up in 2015 so it wasn't a recent add. But being created in 2015 means should have a TMS_ID > 65535 (anyone know a good way to look those up?) so I guess they are doing what you're saying.

    That doesn't seem like a sustainable solution though, with over 130K TMS_IDs there can't possibly be enough unused slots < 65536 for them to use for all channels. How would they decide which ones to do this for? I wonder if they are planning to deliver these subchannels on Directv Now, and that's why they are going to this trouble now. I guess this doesn't bode well for the chances of them ever updating their guide data format to properly handle larger TMS_IDs, if that was in the works you'd think they wouldn't be doing this now.

    TMS also provides data for Europe, the Caribbean and Central and South America. They're currently near the 108500 mark, but the vast majority of those TMS_IDs are channels that aren't part of their North American dataset since they will never be carried by DirecTV or any other provider in the USA or Canada. One of the latest worldwide additions was VENTIHD (108452) for Italy, while the last North American addition was KSNG2SD (108214) for local cable providers who carry a SD down conversion of KSNGDT2. Once you throw in channels that went defunct in the past 20 years since the TMS_IDs have been in use, there's a lot of gaps available.

    Looking at the list of additions so far, it looks like they limited the additions to subchannels of DT (full power) stations, and not any CD/LD (Class A/Low Power) stations. i.e. for Los Angeles, they didn't add any subchannels from KNLACD, KHTVCD, KSMVLD, KHIZLD, KSKJCD or KMRZLD.

    When Gary posts the full TPN map, I'll put up a quick comparison for Vegas since that only involved 9 additional channels.

    Is KSCID10 on 18.1 an error in processing where the 0 is being dropped or an error by engineering? It should be on 18.10. I found another entry with a similar thing, 4.3 KTVXD30 should be on 4.30.

    Also, here's the TMS_ID comparison for Las Vegas and Salt Lake City:
    Real -> Fake -> CALLSIGN
    70548 -> 25937 -> KTNVDT3

    74586 -> 35654 -> KBLRDT3
    78842 -> 47969 -> KCSGDT3
    78852 -> 47985 -> KCSGDT2
    82731 -> 61521 -> KUPXDT5
    83403 -> 24460 -> KUTHDT2
    83531 -> 27109 -> KUPXDT6
    86379 -> 51564 -> KUTHDT3
