    The CNN International feed for North American cable and satellite providers is still SD only, so there is no HD feed available to carry. The same goes for Turner's other SD only channels Boomerang and CNN en Espanol, along with other non-Turner SD only channels like FETV, MTV Classic, Tr3s, Nat Geo Mundo, Fox College Sports, ESPN Classic, and Telemundo's national feeds.

    The CNNgo apps and streaming providers use the seperate TV Everywhere streaming feed for CNN International, which for various technical, sales, and regulatory reasons cannot be used by cable and satellite providers.

    Yes theoretically they could establish a cross-country fiber link to CNN Center in Atlanta and be the first provider to have it in HD, but as we see every spring and fall with the sunfade outages, they are still using C-Band to receive most of their channels, including the Turner ones.

    More details of changes in individual channels will follow in Gary Toma's Weekly Analysis and Domestic TPN Map Excel files.

    No major news
    Some interesting 'remapping' of SD LILs now in Mid Atlantic area
    Some form of TPN/SpotBeam consolidation that must be in preparation for SD LIL shutdown.

    Enjoy

    Yes I agree, that sounds very interesting;

    Considering that unlike CONUS beam tps., local spotbeam tp. frequency assignments are usually chosen on a permanent basis and afixed to a spotbeam grid pattern for minimum co-channel interference between spots.

    Once assigned, they're rarely if ever changed by remapping.

    Shuffling things around in the mid Atlantic area makes me wonder if the shuffling involves markets that are uplinked from ECUF, to get it shut down. ECUF is (unless the Brooklyn site is still in use, it was still licensed when I looked all this up a few years ago so I'm not sure) their only Ku only uplink site, and only needs to exist because of how many Ku spotbeams they have. Once there are no Ku spotbeams ECUF will have no reason to exist.

    If some of the early markets they've already shut down are uplinked from other locations, that would open up a slot to 'shuffle' an ECUF market to another uplink site to get it shut down more quickly rather than waiting for every market it uplinks to go away.

    On the 101 spotbeams, each beam pattern has two or three transponders. They can remap all they want among the transponders on a single beam. They all cover exactly the same area. Last Thursday, they remapped the channels on 101 beam S13, which uses the frequencies of TPN 4, 12, and 20. To the extent possible, they consolidated the channels of one market onto as few transponders as possible for Cincinnati, Columbus and Detroit, changing the PIDs for some other channels in Cleveland and Zanesville. Since then, they did a similar remapping tor transponders 4,12, and 20 on beam S14, affecting Greenville SC, Columbia SC, Charlotte NC and Greensboro NC. Nearby markets that receive these channels as "virtual" channels in part of their DMA were, of course, affected by the remapping.
